Instead of making different sample instrument for every flute, I decided to put them all together, so every technique covers the whole spectrum from the Contrabass flute up to the piccolo! I made the transitions between the different instruments smooth using samples of different instruments in the same notes round robins. Here the main aspects of the library at a glance: All samples are recorded at 44.1kHz, 24bit. I recorded the samples using RME Quadmic Pre-amps and a MOTU UltraLite mk4 interface. The exact position of the microphone has a huge effect on the quality of sound, so during the recording procedure, the mic position was constantly changed to always assure a great sound. In this way, I get a rich sound, especially for percussive samples, such as tongue ram, slaps, air sounds, key clicks on lower instruments. I use miniature high-pressure cardioid microphones with an extremely high sound pressure level (130db SPL) placed inside the tube of the instrument. To record all percussive sounds (especially on low instruments), I used a special technique, which I developed for use in my live sets. I prefer to place them typically near the key mechanics, to get a more balanced and rich sound. To record all the instrumental sound, as well as all the standard techniques, I used my cardioid microphones Neumann KM 184. Here the equipment I used to record this samples: I therefore put a focus on this techniques, which sound really massive on low instruments! Some of the percussive techniques are so particular, they can surely be used instead of drums in a track. I wanted to create a one for all complete library that can help both composers as well as producers or sound artists to learn more about the flute and its beautiful extended techniques. Many years of experience as both a concert flautist and composer in the field of contemporary, experimental music, as well as my education as recording engineer, were combined in this project.
“I wanted this music to be alive, and performed live, sounding like it was played by humans. “We gave them a little wine to loosen them up, and they seemed to be enjoying themselves.” The guiding principle for the score was “it had to sound be organic and hand-made, because that’s the quality of some of those great blues tracks that Patrick chose,” Övarsson says. “I wanted them dropping F-bombs,” he says with a laugh. In deciding to draft a gospel choir, Hughes had some very specific direction. I used quite a bit of the Hammond B3 organ, which I played myself, and we had a brass section.” “It’s very much a traditional band score – drums, bass, guitarists and keyboards. Övarsson produced the track, recording the music in Iceland, and adding a gospel choir that performed at Abbey Road Studios in London with Jackson adding his vocal at a studio in New York. He went into his trailer and 15 minutes later came out with an entire lyric sheet for ‘Nobody Gets Out Alive.’” So one day when we were doing pickup shots I pitched Sam the idea of turning it into a legitimate song. “When I got into the editing room I thought it was genuinely good. The actor improvised a few lines in a scene in which he’s riding shotgun with Reynolds and trying to annoy him. Perhaps the most inspired musical moment is voiced by Jackson himself. The combination of Hughes’ classic song selections and Övarsson’s soulful score provides “depth and emotional direction” for the story and characters that is rare in action movies, says Millennium Films music supervisor Selena Arizanovic. Glimpsed in a bar, she takes down a gang of bikers as Lionel Richie croons “Hello.” “If Sam was going to fall in love with Selma in a bar, I wanted it to play out in slow motion against a really great ‘80s love ballad,” Hughes explains. I liked the playful nature of it, which turned it from just a badass fight into a bit of a dance.” More melodic irony occurs during a flashback to when Jackson’s character, Kincaid, meets the love of his life, played by Salma Hayek. The Chuck Berry tune was used over a fight sequence. “We were playing a lot of the tracks on set. We even have a busload of singing nuns,” Hughes adds, referring to an interlude of lyrical levity that sees Jackson lead a sisterly sing-along to “The Italian Drinking Song” (an actual ditty, published by Warner/Chappell). “There’s an Australian band called Spiderbait and I always loved their cover of ‘Black Betty,’” says Hughes, who needle-drops it for a speedboat chase through the waterways of Amsterdam. Growing up in Melbourne, Hughes sang and played harmonica in a band, and ‘Hitman’ cuts like Willie Dixon’s “Sittin’ and Cryin’ the Blues,” Leadbelly’s “Black Betty” and Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie” are nods to those formative years. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds, features a score by Icelandic composer Atli Övarsson that taps into the soulful songs selected for the soundtrack by director Patrick Hughes. The buddy action comedy, which stars Samuel L. “‘Hitman’ will take full advantage of a very slow marketplace over Labor Day weekend and is likely to go three for three,” says comScore senior analyst Paul Dergarabedian. 18, and is teed-up for its third weekend at the top. There are people SO incompetent that I just have to kick them, since a lvl 40 shouldn't be in a DW game anyway. That's how they keep the community together and not split up.ĥ) In the end, the kick feature is abused, but so what? Should we just get rid of the kick feature entirely? Hell no. That's literally the premise of their heist DLCs. You can play it with other people who have the DLC. Yeah, he has the skills of the lvl 100, but they are skills, which can be used by ANY player.Ĥ) I saw someone saying that they were "checking out the map, before they were going to buy it". Being XXV-100 won't make you more accurate, stronger or faster. (I know there's a chance you believe so too, but it's just a good thing to write in case someone who doesn't believe that reads this)ģ) This doesn't harm you, it doesn't make the game easier either, since they still have to be good at it. They're literally adding new stuff in the game, so for all I and everyone else is concerned, we got the game already. I don't condone the DLC system that OK has, since it's too expensive for too little, but that doesn't excuse anything. They are using weapons from those DLCs, also they most likely cheated the mods on them as well, so they never unlocked them. It's kind of ignorant to just pretend that people who use DLC unlockers aren't cheating. 1) The kick feature is horribly abused, I agreeĢ) There is an anti-cheating feature and that's the auto-kick. Salo is long and hard to watch because of the slow pacing. While i agree with you that Salo and A Serbian Film are some of the worst, I don't think they are much more disturbing than Cannibal Holocaust. I should note I haven't seen A Serbian Film, or The Human Centipede II so there might be films out there that are more disturbing that this but I doubt it. If you really want to watch it, go ahead but I doubt you'll cherish that experience. I really think this film should only be watched for someone who has an intense interest in film history because other than it's censorship boundary significance and artistic merit, this film has no entertainment in it, it's not going to want you to come back to it. If you're your average viewer, or maybe just starting to get interest in film no. I don't know how Pasolini did this, the fact that this film exists is an achievement but the bigger achievement is convincing these actors of performing such scenes.Īnyway, whether you should watch it depends purely on who you are. For all it's scenes of coprophagia, rape and torture the actors are unflinching in their portrayal of the characters. What makes this film more provoking is the acting. I can honestly say that this film pushes boundaries I didn't even know existed in cinema. I guess it is a piece of provocative art but watching it is a chore. In fact no film I've seen comes close to this. Funny Games was supposedly made as a test against the audience. In DVD I watched it on there was a short essay from Pasolini explaining many of the aspects this film has to show. Firstly, it should be pointed out that Saló is an allegory about Italian Fascism. It's after Italian Neorealism but it's in the similar vein but accentuated. The only Pasolini film I'd seen before that was Accatone which I thought was brilliant but very grim. Well I've seen Salo and all I can say is it's an experience. Tl dr - I think you'll be OK with those two films, they aren't La Fin Absolue du Monde As far as the more 'extreme' content, much of it is far worse by implication, sort of like how in the earlier "Saw" movies you would generally see everything except the terminal moment, and had far more tension built up by agonizingly leading up to things that the audience and the victims both know are coming. While it is quite masterfully filmed, it certainly feels more like an older film and its pace may be too meandering for modern audiences. Certainly when in context with film at the time it was made etc, it was quite a slap in the face. 'Salo' can be watched more as a filmmaking curio if you'd rather detatch from the subject matter slightly. The subject matter is definitely grim, however I found other films like 'Wolf Creek' and 'Grotesque' to be far more difficult to watch than 'A Serbian Film'. 'A Serbian Film' while certainly quite extreme is also very aware of itself in a similar way to how the first 'Human Centipede' felt, in that the antagonists are so over-the-top they occasionally approach Tommy Wiseau territory. I think if you are fine with Cannibal Holocaust and Matyrs, then the other two films you mention won't be too much of a step up. I'm currently debating watching A Serbian Film, so perhaps more important: is that movie more fucked up than the rest? Does anybody have an opinion on shock cinema? Is it worth the damage to your "soul" to maybe experience a disturbing film that makes you think about life and death? Is it normal to have films that you consider "too far?" Or should there not be a limit? Depravity exists in real life, so shouldn't it be addressed in art? To me, they are perhaps on the pedestal of the worst of the worst. But I've actually been scared to watch A Serbian Film, and Salo: 120 Days of Sodom. I've watched a good amount of the movies that are frequently on the "most disturbing" lists. The viewer is forced to consider morality, ethics, death, and the rest of the existential gamut when they watch something like Cannibal Halocaust or Martyrs. To me, they force the viewer to withdraw into their own headspace much more than less violent or fucked up films. I tend to respond more to "disturbing" movies. HOMER Energy’s software has been used by more than 150,000 people in 193 countries in the 25 years it has been in existence. “What doesn’t work well is for someone to have a really concrete idea of what the system should look like early in the development process because they are probably wrong.” “I think there is real value in playing around with ideas,” he said. The first phase is when all that exists is an idea. Lilienthal describes the microgrid design process as having three phases. Lilienthal added, “big utilities will tell you they are doing great at 20-30 percent but on a microgrid you can do 80 percent easily.” Start from Scratch “If you want to have renewables at a high penetration, it’s just easier to do that on a microgrid,” said Peter Lilienthal, CEO and founder of Boulder, Colorado-based HOMER Energy, maker of microgrid modeling software. In addition to the resiliency aspect of microgrids, they also carry with them the benefit of allowing for greater integration of renewable energy. Once the microgrid is functional, crews can work to restore power to the greater grid. This way, if the greater grid experiences an outage, grid operators can first restore power to the microgrid, bringing critical power to people when they need it. Because they are attached to the larger grid, but have the ability to function as a small grid, microgrids can be put in place around critical infrastructure like hospitals, schools, police stations, and shelters in any given village, city or town across the world. If the energy industry learned anything in 2017, it was that energy systems are highly vulnerable to damage from hurricanes, wild fires and other natural disasters and work should be done to make the world’s electric grids much more resilient.Įnter the microgrid, a concept that has been around for decades but is only now beginning to be recognized for the full benefits that it can offer.
